Exploring Crescent City’s Pump Track: A Fun Getaway to the Redwoods

The Crescent City pump track has been on our radar for a while, and we finally made the trip! Having visited the redwoods a few times before, we’ve always loved the laid-back vibe of this charming town. Plus, there’s nothing quite like hiking through those ancient trees. But this time, we made a point to check out the pump track—something we’ve been meaning to do for ages.

We cruised down from Seattle, about an 8-hour drive in total. Not many BMX-related stops on the way, but that’s set to change once the Ashland, Oregon pump track is finished. Here’s the thing: while you could detour through Ashland for a quick stop, it adds a solid 1.5 hours to the trip. The more direct route is cutting through Grants Pass and taking Highway 199 along the Redwood Highway, which is a blast—winding roads with great scenery. If you’re up for the detour, Ashland’s pump track is definitely worth the visit, but it’s a bit of an extra commitment.

As far as staying in Crescent City, you’re in luck. There are tons of affordable places to stay, and the food scene is solid. It’s an easy and low-cost trip, especially if you’re able to gas up in Oregon (no sales tax!). It’s a great spot to make a quick weekend getaway.

Now, let’s talk about the track. The Crescent City pump track is a blast! The layout is fast and flowy, with some cool jump lines that keep you on your toes. There’s a fast section behind the wall ride that’s especially fun, though the wall ride itself has a bit of a gap, which I’m not a huge fan of. That said, it’s still pretty rad to be able to just roll up and down without worrying about jumping on and off constantly. It’s a great design overall, and it really makes the riding experience enjoyable.

There’s plenty of parking, which is a big plus, and if you’ve got the family with you, they’ll have other activities to do while you get your ride in. It’s a perfect spot if you want to ride for a while but also want a relaxing trip for everyone else.

Overall, for a one-night trip to ride a fun track in a beautiful setting, Crescent City is definitely worth it. If you’re ever in the area, don’t miss out on checking it out!
